Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III ‘amazed’ Hawaii is a state

12

Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who yells at clouds, offered an extraordinary bit of legal analysis Tuesday on “The Mark Levin Show.” While defending the constitutionality of Trump’s twice-failed Muslim travel ban, Sessions revealed he doesn’t believe a Hawaii district judge can overrule the president.

From the show:

“We are confident that the President will prevail on appeal and particularly in the Supreme Court, if not the Ninth Circuit. So this is a huge matter. I really am amazed that a judge sitting on an island in the Pacific can issue an order that stops the President of the United States from what appears to be clearly his statutory and Constitutional power.”

Agreed, judicial oversight is amazing, especially in the face of a Justice Department committed to its suppression. In March, Hawaii district judge Derrick Watson ruled Trump’s revised travel ban unconstitutional, a decision the Justice Department appealed.

Perhaps realizing how these comments might sound to, say, Hawaiians, or anyone else wondering whether the constitution still applies in Aloha State courtrooms, Justice Department spokesperson Ian D. Prior issued a statement attempting to clarify Sessions’ extralegal intimidation.

“Hawaii is, in fact, an island in the Pacific — a beautiful one where the Attorney General’s granddaughter was born,” Prior said. Cool, thanks for clearing up that basic fact. Go on? “The point, however, is that there is a problem when a flawed opinion by a single judge can block the President’s lawful exercise of authority to keep the entire country safe.”

Ahh, so this isn’t actually related to the 50th state’s constitutional power to adjudicate on executive authority. Sessions is just diaper-wet angry at the impeded progress of religious discrimination, like always.
