Nicki Minaj’s Queen Radio Episode 2 on Beats 1: 5 Highlights

Nicki Minaj surprise-released her long-awaited album Queen on Friday (August 10), following 2014’s The Pinkprint. To celebrate the big drop, Minaj joined Beats 1 for the second episode of her Queen Radio show, breaking down some tracks and answering burning fan questions.

Minaj discusses Eminem, reveals she’s going to update the album with another Future feature, and addresses all the drama on “Barbie Dreams.” Below, check out some of the highlights from the show.

1. “Barbie Dreams” is all in good fun.

Fans have had a big reaction to the hyped-up track, exposing everyone from Meek Mill to Young Thug in name-dropping lyrics like “I would’ve had that Odell Beckham banging the cake till I saw him hoping out of cars dancing to Drake.” Minaj tried to clean up some of the spilled tea by assuring, “You guys know ‘Barbie Dreams’ is not a diss, right? It’s just some funny shit. I love them. I said things about people who I know can take a joke and won’t be emotional about it.” The song samples Notorious B.I.G’s  “Just Playing (Dreams),” which Minaj addressed by saying, “Notorious B.I.G. R.I.P — he’s still inspiring me, four albums in. That’s what you call greatness.”

2. The “Ganja Burn” video is on the way.

Nicki said that Queen’s first track “always gives me chills” and would be the next video to follow up “Bed” and “Chun-Li.”

3. She will always love Eminem.

“Eminem delivered on ‘Majesty,’ with what’s going to be one of the best verses in history.” On her “Roman’s Revenge” collaborator, she said, “It’s refreshing to work with rappers who rap. I love a man who is humble enough — even when he’s that dude — to let a woman shine.”

4. JAY-Z inspired a rewrite of “LCC.”

When one of Minaj’s “hugest inspirations” JAY-Z came into the studio to hear the song, he told Nicki she “went hard on the third verse.” “Because he said third and not whole record — I rewrote the whole fucking song!” The track became one of Minaj’s favorites on the album “for skill, breath control, precision, wittiness and raising the bar.”

5. “Come and See About Me” is about the same person as “Ganja Burn.”

Of the ballad-style track, Minaj revealed, “That song gets me so fucking emotional. I want to tell you what it’s about… the same person I wrote ‘Ganja Burn’ about.” The honest song is one of her favorites on the album, and pulls out all the feels. “You hope that they’re thinking about you and hope you’re OK in this crazy world.”
