Iker Casillas taken to hospital after suffering suspected heart attack

Real Madrid and Spain legend Iker Casillas has reportedly been taken to hospital after suffering a suspected heart attack while training with Porto. According to reports in Portugal, Casillas is believed to be in a stable condition and ‘out of danger’ after being taken into care on Wednesday morning. It’s claimed the 37-year-old complained about feeling unwell during the training session and was urgently taken from the field. Porto’s medical team confirmed to Portuguese outlet RTP that Casillas underwent minor surgery – a heart catheterization – and is now recovering in hospital.

Casillas suffered an acute myocardial infarction during Wednesday morning training session held at the PortoGaia training centre in Olival. The work session was promptly interrupted to provide assistance to the Porto goalkeeper, who is currently at the Hospital CUF Porto. Casillas is well, stable and his heart problem [is] solved. Casillas is expected to be ruled out for the remainder of Porto’s season and the goalkeeper’s playing career is in serious doubt. The shot-stopper is among the most decorated footballers of the modern era, leading Spain to World Cup and European Championship (x2) titles.
