Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba will both be hit with huge pay cuts if they remain at Manchester United this summer, according to reports. The Manchester United duo were part of the side that drew 1-1 with Huddersfield on Sunday, ensuring the Red Devils missed out on next season’s Champions League. According to Football Leaks, their contracts included wage reduction clauses that would be triggered should they fail to deliver Champions League football this campaign. Pogba’s contract includes a host of incentive bonuses and the Frenchman will lose £1.8million with United set to finish in sixth or fifth place in the Premier League.
It also claimed the World Cup winner’s commercial rights value will drop to £2.87m compared to the £3.125m he is worth while playing Champions League football. United have been forced to settle for Europa League football and Sanchez too will be greatly affected. Sanchez’s reported £500,000-week contract will take a £125,000 hit and be reduced to £375,000 for next season. Both Pogba and Sanchez have been linked with moves away from the club, with Pogba reportedly desperate to join Real Madrid.
Sanchez’s mammoth wages appear to be the biggest obstacle to United offloading the Chilean, who Gary Neville hit out at after the draw against Huddersfield. ‘There is nothing left in Alexis Sanchez at all. And we are still waiting for him to turn up,’ he said after the game. ‘There are number of imminent decisions to be made on number of players at Manchester United and he is one of them.’
