The Niece of Trump Supporter and Evangelical Leader Franklin Graham Had a Fiery Rebuke for Her Uncle and Donald Trump on Live TV (

Reverend Billy Graham, who died just last year, was synonymous with the Evangelical Christian movement. Ordained as a Southern Baptist minister in 1949, Graham was a “spiritual adviser” to every president since the Truman administration.

His influence and ministry are now continued through his son, Franklin Graham, and other family members.

One of Graham’s granddaughters, Jane Austen Graham-Lynch, blogged her support of then-candidate Donald Trump in a blog entry back in October 2016 — even going so far as to call the 2016 election “the most important election we ever vote in.” Her defense of supporting Trump was Supreme Court appointment hanging in the balance.

But it is another of Graham’s granddaughter’s, Jerushah Armfield, who is now making news with her scathing take on President Trump and the extent to which the current wave of “Evangelical Christians” are bastardizing what they believe in for political expediency.

Armfield, who has spent her entire life in evangelical circles and is married to a minister, attacked self-described Christians who put the advancement of a political agenda above the moral integrity of the politicians helping them during an interview with CNN‘s Pamela Brown.

On the evolution of the Christian Evangelicism, Jerushah Armfield said:

“[It] started to really represent, actually, a branch of Christians that seemed to be a little more conservative and a little bit more hypocritical, a little bit more willing to compromise on the personal morals of a candidate in lieu of what politically they could gain for their party,”

That’s pretty damning, and absolutely right. Thought the roots of Billy Graham’s Southern Baptist evangelicism are deeply inextricable from appalling racism, it cannot be denied that the unabashed willingness of Christian Evangelicals to go on the record as not caring one iota about the content of a certain candidate’s character — provided they believe he will please them on a single issue is a relatively new development.

When Armfield was asked about her uncle Franklin’s continued support for President Trump, she told Pamela Brown:

“I think my uncle is an incredible — he has an incredible humanitarian ministry that’s been on the front lines off often before a lot of ministries have been there,” she continued. “I think he probably needs to stick to doing that. I think he believes he’s speaking to a larger audience than he is. I think the audience he was once speaking to is starting to migrate to a little more progressive open mindedness.”

Jerushah Armfield seemed uncomfortable lumping her own uncle in with the hypocrites… so she weakly offered that perhaps Franklin Graham’s support of Trump is due to Trump’s action on the nonexistent war on Christmas?
