Solskjaer sends Man City a message
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says the performance at Manchester City last month was the Manchester United supporters want to see.
United secured an impressive 2-1 victory at City on December 8 just three days after they held on for a win by the same scoreline against Tottenham Hotspur. The manner of United’s triumph was widely heralded after they scored twice inside the first 30 minutes and drew three saves from Ederson.
City travel to Old Trafford for their League Cup semi-final first leg with a 100 per cent Premier League record there under Pep Guardiola, but he suffered defeat at United in the 2016 League Cup fourth round. Solskjaer’s United lost 2-0 at home to City in April but figures at the club were encouraged by the first-half performance until the team tired.
Solskjaer insists the December derby is the benchmark for United now:
“We’ve got to aim for performances like that. Two good days against Tottenham and City in a short spell, so we know we can do it physically.”
