FKA Twigs says she wasn't asked to sing at the Grammys 2020 Prince tribute

Fans of FKA Twigs may have been disappointed after her participation in the Usher-centered Prince tribute at the 2020 Grammys was limited to a sultry dance routine.

Turns out, she just wasn’t asked. “Of course I wanted to sing at the Grammys,” Twigs, 32, wrote on Twitter after her performance on Sunday. “I wasn’t asked this time but hopefully in the future.”

But Prince associate iconic singer and drummer Sheila E., who also performed in the tribute, disputed Twigs’ version of events.

“She didn’t want to sing,”  E., 62, told USA Today. “First she wanted to, but then she didn’t want to when we ran through it because she didn’t have a [microphone] pack and [in-ear monitors], so she couldn’t hear. And she would rather have danced — which is what we asked her as well. She chose not to, she said ‘No, I’m OK.’”

Twigs — a singer, dancer and artist — was a Grammy nominee this year for Best Music Video for “Cellophane,” off her acclaimed November album “Magdalene” — while Usher, 41, was last nominated five years ago. (And his last album, “Hard II Love,” came out in 2016.)

We guess this is what it feels like when accounts collide.
