Why Dave Chappelle wasn't there to accept his Grammy

Dave Chappelle took fashionably late to the next level at the 2020 Grammy Awards at the Staples Center in LA on Sunday night.

The comedian won a Grammy for Best Comedy Album for “Sticks & Stones,” but he didn’t go on stage to accept the award. Instead, Brandi Carlile and Tanya Tucker accepted the accolade on his behalf.

Strangely, though, the 46-year-old was later seen in the audience as well as backstage, leaving many to wonder why he did not accept his award on his own.

The answer? The age-old LA excuse.

“It was nothing more than #LATraffic,” his rep told Page Six.

While he missed his moment to shine on stage, he made sure to make the rounds off-camera.

Chappelle was seen schmoozing with Ellen DeGeneres, laughing with Chrissy Teigen, and posing for pics with Beck as the show went on.
