Bayern Munich and Barcelona could both be in a race to find a new central defender during the summer transfer window. Gerard Pique is not getting any younger and a new name should be prepared for when he is ready to step down from the first team in the future and Bayern always look to find small margins where they can improve, despite their usual confidence in winning the Bundesliga title.
And what better way for them to do that than by signing a talented centre-back from their big rival. According to the Bild, both Barcelona and Bayern Munich are among the clubs interested in signing RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano. The defender was reportedly a target of Arsenal last summer, but they were unable to strike a deal for the Frenchman. And since his performances are now even better than then, bigger clubs are interested.
Upamecano prefers a Premier League move and RB Leipzig could be forced to sell as his contract ends in 2021.
