PBAU Breaks Two Traditions In Order to Grant Melania "Woman of Distinction Award": Mar-a-Lago Member Co-Chaired Committee

According to the Palm Beach Post, Palm Beach Atlantic University has bucked its 28 year tradition of granting its annual “Women of Distinction” award to two local women with active ties to the community and its charities, in favor of awarding it to Melania Trump, singularly.

You will be shocked to learn that one of the chairwomen on the nominating committee is a Mar-a-Lago club member.

“Our first lady is an exquisite human being, a magnificent wife and life partner, a superb mother and an outstanding first lady, who represents us brilliantly in the United States and worldwide,” event co-chair and Mar-a-Lago member Eileen Burns said in a statement. Melania is a perfect example of a Woman of Distinction and we are most proud to honor her.

In announcing the award, event organizers cited the first lady’s #BeBest campaign that focuses on the “three pillars” of children’s safety — well-being, social media use and the opioid crisis.

Right.

No argument there.

Well, actually:

Critics immediately slammed the decision to fete the first lady, claiming she has failed to speak out against President Donald Trump’s frequent tweets mocking, name calling and denigrating his opponents …

You noticed?

Kyra Kinnaman, a 2015 graduate of PBAU, was so upset about PBAU’s decision to present the first lady with the award that she wrote a letter …

“I also hope that others add to this discussion, because selecting Trump as the 2020 Woman of Distinction is a misguided, embarrassing choice at best and a calculated, amoral choice at worst,” Kinnaman wrote, adding that the negative press would affect the school’s reputation.

You think?

I am not sure how anyone could call Melania a “fantastic First-Lady,” because without regard to party (I personally am a huge Laura Bush fan), Melania has done far less than any First Lady in memory, and indeed seems to hold nothing but contempt for both the job and her husband, only one of which is forgivable.

Besides, this is supposed to be a singularly local award for local work, given to local women (plural, given to two, but they thought putting someone alongside Melania would detract from the “First” Lady), this is nothing but pure pandering MAGA bullshit.

I would think that a requirement for the award should be that one should smile at least once a year, how about that? And no! Looking up into Justin Trudeau’s dark brown eyes doesn’t count.

Maybe they should also, you know, actually require that the women do some work to do good in the world, rather than sit inside all day doing absolutely nothing, or wearing 5 inch heels to the Daytona 500, with her husband, “man of the people”?

If you click on the link above – to their credit – their past list of women honorees is damned impressive, which is what makes this year’s selection so intolerable to some, I suppose.

But hey, they can have her. Except just like everywhere else, a good portion don’t want her, either.

Melania, when they give you the award, try to smile, okay? It is a nice thing for these little people to do, and you can pretend to be happy for 20 minutes.

****

Peace, y’all
