In a clip captured from his online show, Dennis Prager, founder of Prager U, can be seen complaining that he can’t use racist language to address people of color. Specifically, he’s upset that black people get to reject forms of address that are outdated, and were already racist and disparaging when they were in typical use.
Jason Campbell, of Media Matters For America, caught the clip and shared it on Twitter. Prager, musing about race and political correctness, beginning with the use of ‘Native American’ instead of ‘Indian.’ Then he moved on to compare this to terms for BPOC, complaining that ‘colored’ or ‘Negro’ should have been perfectly acceptable terms.

I don’t see what’s wrong with American Indian. What’s wrong is that it was used a lot so they needed something new to show that they are more sensitive. Indigenous people, that’s better than Native American even. I think it should be renamed ‘the finest people.’ That would be better. ‘There was a mass killing of the finest people.’I’m gonna start a movement to rename the Native Americans. Not to mock Native Americans, to mock people who change names all the time.
How many names have Blacks gone through in my lifetime? Colored, Negro, African American? Oh, uh, black. That’s four different titles for the same human being. What was wrong with Negro? What was wrong with colored? None of them, there’s no problem with any of them. You know the NAACP is still the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. [laughs] And then African American…That changed too, remember? A dash, a hyphen or not?
Prager is the founder of Prager U, a website whose disclaimer, tucked at the bottom of the site, might go unnoticed by some who share its videos and articles, which cover political and social issues from a conservative viewpoint.
PRAGER UNIVERSITY IS NOT AN ACCREDITED ACADEMIC INSTITUTION AND DOES NOT OFFER CERTIFICATIONS OR DIPLOMAS. BUT IT IS A PLACE WHERE YOU ARE FREE TO LEARN.
Currently, for example, the site is promoting a video that claims social justice is not fair, because, the speaker claims, social justice removes personal responsibility, and another declaring that it’s intolerant to speak out against racism, sexism, and other bigotries.
It’s not Prager’s first time being caught out complaining that he can’t use racist language, either — The Wrap covered his video in February, when he complained to a caller that “the left” makes it impossible to say “the n-word.”
It is idiotic that you cannot say the n-word. Idiotic.
It’s unlikely Prager would mind getting caught in this. He talks about race and racism pretty frequently. He boasted in 2014 that Parger U had a new course (remember, Prager U is not an accredited academic institution) proving that liberals are more racist than conservatives, and said in 2017 that good people are often called racist.
