GOP: ALL STATES RIGHTS MUST BE RESPECTED

States: yeah we’re keeping churches closed because it’s too dangerous to open them

GOP: NOT THOSE STATES RIGHTS

Trump thinks himself *Emperor* once again in what is supposed to be a Democracy.

People who call themselves “Patriots”, praise him for it.

While the majority stand in dismay at the entire thing.

So tired of this daily beating.

He doesn’t care, cause he will get all the credit for wanting to do the thing without actually having to do the thing.

His people will just blame the others, poor poor Trump, he’s getting picked on again.

Obviously Trump has a very shaky grasp of the Constitution, and couldn’t give a crap about what’s legal or not. But just in practical terms… how does he think he would bring this about? Is he going to mobilize the military and have them forcibly open the churches?

So basically he’s throwing the entire “States Rights” argument completely out the window. Law of unintended consequences I suppose.

This is so stupid. If you’re going to attempt a soft coup on a government you should have a basic knowledge of how that government is structured. It’s statements like this that expose that McConnell, Pompeo, and Barr are really running the show here. Trump is their puppet.

I saw the press conference. I think most people miss the point. I am pretty sure Trump knows he doesn’t have that power after the first time he got up and talked about overriding governors and the media had a field day with it. But he also knows that he has a lot of brainwashed rednecks following him totally. So, the power is the fact that he even stood up there today and said what he did, because now churches are going to start doing what they want to do and most Republican governors are going to allow it or… Read more »

Considering we know about half the shit done by the Trump administration is immoral, if not outright illegal; it’s probably fair to say this is just business-as-usual for them.

The important point here isn’t that it’s not legal, given that that’s never stopped Trump before. The important point is that Trump has literally no means of enforcing such an order. It’s a completely empty demand. Absolutely nothing will happen when a state ignores it.

It really puts states in a terrible position, not just looking like “the bad guy” if they refuse to let churches open, but then if they do let them open, how can they possibly tell other businesses they have to remain closed? The ones where the owners provide a valuable service/product, and are currently losing all their money and possibly their business and livelihood. Churches are the absolute least “essential” of all. Adults with imaginary friends are considered insane, unless your friend is named God.
