Hillary Clinton, Chrissy Teigen bond on Twitter following loss of son

Supermodel Chrissy Teigen and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton shared a sweet Twitter exchange Wednesday.

On Medium.com, Teigen wrote a lengthy personal essay chronicling her recent, tragic pregnancy, the loss of a son she and her husband, singer John Legend, named Jack

Clinton shared the essay in a tweet and thanked Teigen for her “bravery and grace in starting a hard conversation to help other families heal alongside yours.”

Teigen, who was an ardent supporter of Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, thanked Clinton for sharing the post.

“I’m so honored @hillaryclinton,” she tweeted, “You have dedicated your life to fighting for women’s and children’s health, so to have you share my piece about my experience means the absolute world to me. Wow. Wow.”

Later, Teigen shared a video of Clinton accepting a 2018 Glamour Women of the Year Award in which the model is seen crying as Clinton leaves the stage.

Clinton responded to the post, saying, “I love you back.”

In her thoughtful Medium essay, simply titled, “Hi.”, Teigen shared that she read hundreds of messages from her fans following the loss of her son.

Social media messages from strangers have consumed my days,” she wrote, “most starting with, ‘you probably won’t read this, but…’. I can assure you, I did.”

“But I will tell you,” she continued, “some of the best letters started with, ‘You don’t have to respond to this, but…’”

Teigen says the messages that took the pressure off responding were the most touching.

“For me, the ‘no need to respond’ note was such a true relief,” she wrote. “I thank you for each and every one of those.”

Teigen also responded to being criticized for sharing photos of such an intimate moment for her family. She says she asked her husband to take pictures. She said he was reluctant to do so, but she explained that it was important to capture the experience.

“I cannot express how little I care that you hate the photos,” she wrote. “How little I care that it’s something you wouldn’t have done. I lived it, I chose to do it, and more than anything, these photos aren’t for anyone but the people who have lived this or are curious enough to wonder what something like this is like. These photos are only for the people who need them. The thoughts of others do not matter to me.”

“I feel bad our grief was so public because I made the joy so public,” she wrote. “I was so positive it would be okay. I feel bad that I made you all feel bad. I always will.”

Teigen closed the essay by thanking fans who shared their stories with her.

“We are so incredibly lucky,” she wrote.

She signed the essay: “With so, so, so much love, Chrissy.”
