Wendy Williams has been on a bit of a hiatus to deal with health issues, which hasn’t exactly made things easy for the fall premiere of The Wendy Williams Show. Or easy on fans of The Wendy Williams Show, who have been waiting anxiously since last season for their daily dose of daytime TV messiness. The premiere date of her current season has been delayed several times already, and it was starting to feel like anyone’s guess if Wendy would be doing well enough to come back to work. Wendy’s return might happen one day in the future, but the show is going on without her for now.

Two days after the season was set to premiere on September 20, an update was made informing fans that Wendy Williams had caught a breakthrough case of COVID, and that the premiere would be moved to Monday, October 4th instead. Then there were reports that Wendy was going through much more than a COVID situation, and that she had allegedly checked into a hospital to deal with some mental health issues. Wendy was reportedly ready to get back to work (my guess is there were only so many doctors to talk shit about to her audience of nurses). But still, she was dealing with health issues that prevented her return, and her show was delayed again, to Monday, October 18th.

Around that time, a source claimed that Wendy would “1000% host” when she show returned. That source better not place any bets in Vegas, because their odds were way wrong. The show is coming back on October 18th, but Wendy will 1000% not be there to be reading everyone’s asses in the Hot Topics segment. The Wendy Williams Show released a statement earlier today saying that Wendy’s Graves Disease is messing with her recovery, so a whole bunch of guest hosts will be filling in for her while she continues to get better.

Wendy has many haters, but Graves Disease might be the hatingest hater of them all. Wendy was forced to go on hiatus back in 2020 to deal with health issues. In 2019 she took a two-month break from hosting her show to deal with any number of personal life bad times (Graves, alcohol, the end of her marriage). As for who will temporarily replace Wendy while she’s gone, the show’s production company Debmar-Mercury hasn’t released any names. During Wendy’s 2019 hiatus, she was replaced by Nick Cannon. And Jerry O’Connell has filled in before, but he’s on The Talk now. Whoever they get better learn the rules and learn them quickly. Show up on time, remember that it’s Wendy’s show, and blame any accidental gas on your mic!
