Trump Appointee Fired by President Biden Suing to Be Reinstated

A Trump appointee to the Department of Defense who was suspended by the Biden administration is now suing to try to reinstate her job, according to a report released on Tuesday by The Daily Beast.

Katie Arrington, who was the chief information security officer for the acquisition and sustainment office of the Defense Department, was notified by her superiors on May 11th that “her security clearance for access to classified information is being suspended,” the report details.

Arrington, who claims to have “more than 15 years of experience in cybersecurity” was the Republican nominee for South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District in 2018, unseating walking scandal Rep. Mark Sanford in a primary, only to lose in an upset to Democrat Joe Cunningham. Republicans regained the seat in 2020. She was brought to the Pentagon in 2019 under the category of “highly qualified expert,” a hiring classification that allows the Department of Defense to bring in civilian experts with state-of-the-art knowledge in fields of critical importance. Arrington was responsible for the application of supply chain risk management principles within the DOD’s procurement strategy.

She was placed on leave in connection with a suspected unauthorized disclosure of classified information from a military intelligence agency, but ultimately terminated from the DoD after a colleague reported her, according to the Daily Beast. Since then, Arrington says she has had “no chance to respond to the allegations and the Pentagon has not made any moves toward completing its investigation of the suspected intel leak,” as quoted by the Daily Beast.

Arrington claims she has been deprived of “procedural and substantive due process.”
