Open Post: Hosted By George Clooney Admitting He Ruined Batman
If George Clooney has to apologize for anything he’s done on screen, I personally feel it should be for how dirty he did Michelle Pfeiffer’s character in One Fine Day by rudely falling asleep on her while she turbo-speed through a pre-hookup clean-up. But George is sorry for his turn as Batman, in Joel Schumacher’s 1997 film Batman & Robin. George was the Batman with the Bat-abs and the Bat-nipples. Many hated it. And George is very, very, VERY sorry for that!
George has spoken previously about this and he talked about it again during a Q&A at a New York City screening of his new film, The Tender Bar (George directs it). George was asked by a person in the audience if he could explain the difference between acting in blockbuster movies versus smaller, more character-driven films, and it was the perfect opportunity to do some penance. via People magazine:
“I did one superhero movie and I fucked it up so bad they won’t let me near the set. I don’t want to get into all the bat nipples.”
The bat nipples truly aren’t George Clooney’s fault, I’m sure. That was the work of Joel Schumacher’s brilliant brain after running to a wardrobe supervisor and telling them all about the fever dream he just had about his orgy-filled days on Fire Island in the 1960s, right? But Joel Schumacher is currently resting in peace. This means poor George Clooney is going to be apologizing for this movie 300 years into the afterlife, I’m sure of it. Somewhere in Purgatory, you’ll find George Clooney in the purifying fire, telling another cursed soul, “You know, I really didn’t think Batman was going to be that bad, but here we are!”
