Former Arsenal goalkeeper Mat Ryan says Martin Odegaard is open to returning to Real Sociedad in the future.

Odegaard, who joined the Gunners on a permanent deal during the summer transfer window, enjoyed some of the best form of his career to date on loan with Sociedad during the 2019-20 season.

The La Liga side tried to re-sign the Norway international at the start of the year, only for the midfielder to opt for an initial loan move to north London.

During that time, Odegaard was teammates with goalkeeper Ryan, who has since joined Sociedad.

And the Australian has revealed Odegaard played a key role in convincing him to head to San Sebastian – also suggesting Odegaard has his heart set on a return one day.

‘Before I knew Real were interested in me, he [Odegaard] told me that Real, because of his experience here, was a great team, a 10 out of 10 in everything: the team, the life here, the public…everything,’ Ryan told Mundo Deportivo.

‘And now I agree with him. He’s comfortable at Arsenal, but he’s open to coming back one day, for sure.’

Arsenal completed the permanent signing of Odegaard from Real Madrid in the summer for an initial fee of £30m.
