Barcelona have expressed interest in signing Nemanja Matic from Manchester United and believe they could land the midfielder for just £10m.

Serbia international Matic has made 165 appearances for the Red Devils since signing from Premier League rivals Chelsea in the summer of 2017.

The 33-year-old has made at least 34 appearances every season he has been at Old Trafford but has been unable to fire the club to any silverware, having won two Premier League titles and the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge.

Matic has around 18 months remaining on his current contract at Manchester United and has been identified by Barcelona as a transfer target for next summer, according to The Sun.

Due to Matic’s age and contract situation, the Spanish giants – who are currently ninth in La Liga – believe they can sign Matic for as little as £10m.

Barcelona are going through a huge rebuild following the departure of Lionel Messi and view Matic as a dependable addition who can play a key role in the team as well as guiding the club’s youngsters.

Matic played 80 minutes of Manchester United’s 4-2 defeat to Leicester City on Saturday as the Foxes piled the pressure on under-fire manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Speaking after the six-goal thriller, Matic said: ‘We are sorry for the fans. They support us, especially away and they are top. They deserve much, much better than this.

‘We will do our best to make them happy in the future. But we have 14 points – we are still in the title race. We don’t want to give up until the end.’

He added: ‘Of course, we are disappointed. Everyone is sad, everyone is with their head down at the moment.

‘But when you play for Man United, if you don’t win the game of course you are disappointed, but we have to stick together.

‘It’s time to stick together, to analyse this game as soon as possible, then to think about the next one, which is in three or four days against a very good side, Atalanta.

‘It’s also going to be hard. We are very disappointed, but I think that, in the future, we will show we are much better than this.’
