The producers of the Broadway play The Minutes have finally found a replacement for the role left vacant by Armie Hammer’s unsurprising departure. Armie announced he was stepping away from the production back in April after his career took an abrupt turn up shit creek, and it has recently been announced that he will be replaced by Schitt’s Creek star Noah Reid. Hmmm…now that I think of it, irony might be Armie Hammer getting replaced by an actor named Leggie Screwdriver.

Armie found himself without a ton of work on his plate (or a talent agent, or a publicist), after several women came forward and alleged that Armie is an abusive consent-dodging blood-drinking aspiring “cannibal” (among other things). Armie’s family situation was also in the toilet; he and his wife of ten years, Elizabeth Chambers, called it quits in July 2020, and she and her two children decided to lay low in the Cayman Islands for a bit to avoid this mess with Armie. After the alleged DMs made their way online, Vanity Fair published an exposé that heavily implied being next-level fucked up about sex is probably baked into his DNA. So naturally, Armie’s IMDb page is a bit of a ghost town now. He was replaced in Shotgun Wedding by Josh Duhamel, walked away from The Offer, and dropped from the film Billion Dollar Spy. The film Death on the Nile was already shot when Armie’s PR disaster happened, and the release was bumped into next year, likely to avoid this mess. When Armie first announced he was leaving The Minutes, which was originally set to premiere on Broadway in March 2020, he said he needed to focus on his family and his health, and that he would not be back. I kind of half-expected that a desperate for work Armie might try to sneak back into the theater, beg for his role back, and cook up a plan to keep a low profile by being lit in a face-obscuring shadow. But no, he’s definitely not going back to The Minutes. via The Hollywood Reporter:

Noah Reid has joined the cast of the Anna D. Shapiro-directed Broadway run of Tracy Letts’ The Minutes. Reid has replaced Armie Hammer, who dropped out in April, following sexual harassment allegations and a subsequent LAPD investigation. The show is set to open April 7 at Studio 54, a little over two years after its original opening date. Previews will begin March 19.

For those not in the Schitt’s Creek know, Noah Reid played Patrick Brewer, aka David Rose’s business partner-turned-husband. THR points out that Noah Reid has never appeared on Broadway before, but did appear on stage in Canada (he’s from Canada). And honestly, he spent four seasons in an ensemble that featured Catherine O’Hara in about ten million wigs pronouncing it “bébé,” and you can’t get much more theatrical than that. He’ll be fine.

As for Armie, we learned in June that Armie had checked himself into rehab in Orlando, Florida to deal with his issues, and he’s reportedly still there working on himself, while also trying to be a better dad. via TMZ:

Sources close to Hammer tell us he’s “thriving” in the Florida facility, those around him feel he’s changed (for the better) from when he arrived and you can hear the difference in his voice. Not only that, we’re told Armie has kept in constant contact with his kids and loved ones – FaceTiming with them regularly and sharing his progress.

Our sources say there’s still no exact timeline for when he’ll complete treatment, but he’s willing to do whatever it takes. We’re told the Call Me By Your Name star understands he was in an incredibly dangerous place before treatment and doesn’t want to backslide.

TMZ adds that nobody has seen Armie since he checked into rehab and that he’s there to deal with issues relating to drugs, booze, and sex addiction. Armie obviously needs to stay in treatment as long as he needs to be there. It would be helpful to have some clarity on what Armie’s version of “thriving” is. Maybe they tested his progress by handing him a cellphone with the Instagram app open, and he didn’t immediately DM the first hottie he saw with a message asking “Age, location, blood type?“.
