Eco-friendly cleaning products with recycled packaging for your home

Eco cleaning is big business, and any company worth its salt is looking to improve its credentials.

Interestingly, the big problem is not so much ingredients as packaging.

‘Plastic is still the most lightweight means to hold liquid so look for products made from the highest possible percentage of recycled plastic,’ says Lloyd Atkin, managing director of Bio-D, whose products are made from ethically sourced ingredients and use 100% recyclable packaging.

‘Try to ensure there’s a refill available, ideally one which can be sent back for recycling, so that it’s a circular process.’

You can buy five-litre refills, which saves on transportation costs, while concentrates to which you add water are also excellent. Avoid products with a pic of a dead fish on them as these are harmful to marine or aquatic life – and look out for those that are RSPO-registered.

‘This means they’re using sustainable palm oil, an incredibly useful crop if it’s responsibly farmed,’ he says.

Bio-D General Purpose Furniture Polish

A good rub down

This vegan furniture polish is made from plant-based wax and natural oils, and is for use on wood around the home.

It needs a bit of (natural) elbow grease to rub in but creates a fabulous shiny result on the dining room table, and a little goes a very long way. The tin is aluminium.

Larging it

I buy this all the time. I love the smell, a little goes a long way. It kills 99.9% of viruses with plant basic lactic acid, as well as making the house smell fresh. A 100 per cent recycled plastic bottle.

Toilet cleaner

The bottle is labelled as 100% recycled plastic and the cleaner is made from plant-derived and sustainable resources.

More to the point, it cleans the loo and smells delicious, which I’ve never said before about toilet cleaner.
