Arsenal, Man Utd and England stars among Golden Boy 2021 nominations

Three Premier League stars made it onto the Golden Boy shortlist for the 2021 award, with Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood and Tottenham’s Bryan Gil making the 20-man list.

England international Jude Bellingham also made the shortlist, one of two Borussia Dortmund players with Giovanni Reyna.

Arsenal’s William Saliba, currently on loan at Marseille and yet to make his debut for the Gunners, is also on the shortlist after impressing in Ligue 1.

The prize goes to the best performing under-21 player in Europe over the year, voted for by sports journalists.

It was first awarded in 2003, to Rafael van der Vaart, and there have been some seriously big names picking up the trophy since then.

Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Paul Pogba, Raheen Sterling and Kylian Mbappe have all been winners, with Erling Haaland getting the most votes last year.

Also on the shortlist are the likes of Barcelona and Spain star Pedri, Real Madrid summer signing Eduardo Camavinga and Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala.

A date for the announcement is yet to be confirmed but it will be before the end of 2021.
