Alec Baldwin Tells Stephanopoulos That Victim Directed Him to Point Gun at Her Prior to Fatal Shooting on ‘Rust’ Movie Set

As we previously reported, actor Alec Baldwin was interviewed by ABC’s George Stephanopoulos and in a previous clip that was shared, he denied pulling the trigger in the fatal shooting on the set of the movie “Rust.”

The full interview, which aired last night, didn’t get any better for Baldwin as he told Stephanolopouls that the victim, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, directed him to point the gun at her prior to her death.

As ABC News explained, gun in hand, Baldwin said he and Hutchins began blocking out the scene, directing his every move as he said, “Everything is at her direction.”

Baldwin attempted to explain, “This was a marking rehearsal and (Hutchins) says to me, ‘Hold the gun lower. Go to your right. Okay, right there. All right, do that. Now show it a little bit lower.’ And she’s getting me to position the gun.”

“She’s guiding me through how she wants me to hold the gun for this angle. I’m holding the gun where she told me to hold it, which ended up being aimed right below her armpit,” Baldwin insisted.

Baldwin then claimed that to get the shot, he needed to cock the gun, but not fire it and that “The trigger wasn’t pulled. I didn’t pull the trigger.”

“I cock the gun. I go, ‘Can you see that? Can you see that? Can you see that?’ And then I let go of the hammer of the gun, and the gun goes off. I let go of the hammer of the gun, the gun goes off,” Baldwin asserted.

Stephanolopolus then pressed him to which he replied, as previously reported, “I would never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger at them, never.”

As we previously reported:

In regards to how a live round got in the gun, Baldwin claimed, “I have no idea. Someone put a live bullet in a gun. A bullet that wasn’t even supposed to be on the property.”

Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office issued a new search warrant on Tuesday detailing that investigators may have found the source of the live bullet fired by Baldwin on the “Rust” set.

According to the search warrant, longtime Hollywood armorer Thell Reed, the father of the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, said in a statement to investigators that ammunition once in his possession “may match the ammunition found on the set of Rust.”

In the interview, Baldwin lamented the situation and wondered, “I think back and I think of what could I have done?”

“She was someone who was loved by everyone who worked with (her) and liked by everyone who worked with (her), and admired… I mean, even now I find it hard to believe that (she’s gone). It doesn’t seem real to me,” Baldwin added.
