The Utah Proud Boys Are Holding a Kyle Rittenhouse Appreciation Rally Today
Those on the left see the case of Kyle Rittenhouse as a pretty good argument for gun control. A 17 year old boy travels across state lines with an assault weapon to ‘patrol’ streets that already have a heavy police presence. No one was surprised when tragedy occurred.
On the right, however, the case of the teen is seen in an entirely different light. Rittenhouse has become a celebrity, visiting Mar-a-Lago and having congresspeople argue over who can have him as their intern.
And, not surprisingly, those the farthest to the right believe the vigilante to be a folk hero. Today in Salt Lake City, the Proud Boys are holding a rally to honor the teen.
A flyer for the event urges attendees to, “bring banners, 2A flags and freedom flags and to celebrate your rights to DEFEND YOUR CITIES.” The events organizers are also giving away hot chocolate and deserts.
While the Proud Boys have been quick to attach themselves to Rittenhouse, the teen has attempted to separate himself from them. He said during a recent interview that a photo-op with known Proud Boys was set up by former lawyer Lin Wood. Rittenhouse told New Nation:
“I didn’t know that the OK hand sign was a symbol for white supremacy, just as I didn’t know those people in the bar were Proud Boys. They were set up by my former attorney, who was fired because of that, for putting me in situations like that with people I don’t agree with. If I had known that they were Proud Boys, I would have said absolutely not.”
