Trump’s Influence Is Waning: His Newsmax Interview Scored Less Viewers than “Chopped”

Donald Trump likely once believed viewers would tune into him any time he appeared on the television screen and that they would be rapt with attention for the former President. The truth, however, paints quite a different picture based on a recent Trump appearance.

Former President Donald Trump appeared recently in an interview on Newsmax and according to Nielsen Media Research data, one-hour sit-down interview with Steve Cortex and Jenn Pellegrino averaged a puny 295,000 viewers. Wow.

Not sure what to make of that number? Well that’s less than half the amount of viewers than a RERUN of Food Network’s “Chopped” would garner. It pulls in an average of 651,000 in that same time slot. And an episode of Bravo’s “Real Housewives of New York” gets three times that.

A new episode of HGTV’s “Unsellable Houses” aired at 9:01and snagged 1.283 million total average viewers – that’s FOUR times the audience for Trump’s interview with Cortez, who once served as a top adviser on Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign but now co-hosts a show for the right-wing media outlet, Newsmax.

The former president was once a huge fan of Fox News but the relationship soured as he became critical over their coverage of him during the last election cycle and he recently chose Newsmax to discuss his ban from all major social media platforms due to his role in the deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

The interview was essentially a flop, according to ratings data.

As far as how other cable news programs did during that time: MSNBC’s “Rachel Maddow Show” pulled in 2.59 million total average viewers and 355,000 in the coveted key demographic of viewers ages 25-54. In the meantime, Fox News’ “Hannity,” a show on which Trump used to frequently appear, grabbed 2.318 million total viewers with an average 387,000 between 25 and 54. And “Cuomo Prime Time” on CNN nabbed 1.02 million viewers, with 222,000 in the key demo.

And just for a laugh, Nick Jr.’s “Peppa Pig”, which only ran for a half hour time slot at 9 p.m. pulled in about 320,000 viewers for its episode of that night. Yikes.
