SNL Cold Open Styles Itself as ‘The Ingraham Angle’

Saturday Night Live opened its show by parodying Laura Ingraham, with another mock Fox News show that featured a visibly edited clip of White House press secretary Jen Psaki and several interviews with embattled guests.

Ingraham, played by Kate McKinnon, kicked off by highlighting the “disaster” of President Joe Biden‘s first year in office.

Inflation’s out of control, gas is at $19 a gallon,” Ingraham said. “And the green M&M has been canceled just for being a whore. Things are so bad in Biden’s America, even according to former Wendy’s spokes-girl Jen Psaki.”

She then played a visibly edited clip of the press secretary which was chopped and sliced to make her say, “We are not good people, the American public should vote us out.”

“First true thing she’s ever said,” Ingraham remarked, before going on to list “things liberals are trying to take from you.”

“Liberals want to take away everything that makes you American,” she said. “For example: guns, hamburgers, Morgan Wallen — I don’t care if he uses a slur, I just want to dance, your backup guns, commercial where the whole family is the same thing, saying the word mayonnaise.”

“It’s aioli all of a sudden? No thanks, Lin-Manuel,” she continued. “And finally, missionary.”

Ingraham then brought on guests to interview, including Aidy Bryant‘s Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Pete Davidson as tennis player Novak DjokovicEgo Nwodim as Candace Owens, and James Austin Johnson reprising his role as former President Donald Trump.

Asked about apologizing for calling Jan. 6 rioters “terrorists,” Bryant’s Cruz replied, “I agree with you 100%, I never should have called them terrorists.”

“The truth is, they’re big, burly men with big ‘D’ energy,” he continued. “I like them a lot. I mean, they’re my cool friends.”

The next guest on the line-up was Djokovic, who was there to talk about being deported from Australia.

“I never thought I’d hear myself use the word deported in a bad way,” Ingraham said. “What happened?”

The tennis star replied, “I went to Australia and my visa was denied, but then I appealed to the judge, and this was his ruling.”

He later added: “People love to tear you off your pedestal just cause you’re really rich or you’re the best at tennis or you go to a charity event with 200 kids even though you’re dripping with Covid.”

When Trump was brought on, Ingraham addressed his “uncharacteristically reasonable” opinion on Covid booster shots, before he went on to take a jab at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and ramble about Hilary Duff and Lizzie McGuire in an effort to solve the day’s “Wordle” puzzle.
