Jim Jordan’s Hometown Paper Labels Him a ‘Traitor’ and ‘Trump Sycophant’

In a blistering op-ed, Ohio’s largest newspaper described Rep. Jim Jordan as an “obstructionist” and branded him as “a sycophant loyal” to former President Donald Trump, Newsweek reports.

Those salvoes were fired by guest columnist Chuck Ardo, writing for Ohio’s largest newspaper, The Plain Dealer. Ardo served as press secretary to former Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell. He blasted Jordan (R-Ohio) for his unabated loyalty to Trump and his stubborn refusal to cooperate with the House Select Committee as it continues to investigate the pro-Trump insurrection on January 6, 2021, against the Capitol.

“U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, the see-no-evil, hear-no-evil former assistant wrestling coach, has once again chosen the dark side by failing to cooperate with the U.S. House Select Committee to investigate the January 6th attack on the United States Capitol. He is following the path he blazed when he emphatically denied knowledge of the late Dr. Richard Strauss’ sexual abuse of hundreds of students at Ohio State, despite accusations by numerous athletes who claimed Jordan must have known about but turned a blind eye to the perversion,” Ardo wrote in the op-ed “Jim Jordan, Obstructionist.”

It’s been alleged that Strauss abused at least 177 young male athletes at Ohio State University in a 20 year period, spanning from 1978 to 1998. Jordan served as assistant wrestling coach from 1987 to 1994. Several students allege Jordan was made aware of Strauss’s abuse but did nothing to stop it.

“It would be natural for the select committee to assume that Jordan’s refusal to cooperate with the investigation is due to his tacit approval of, or active involvement with, the insurrectionists’ actions,” Ardo wrote. “His contempt for the truth has been on display ever since he denied knowledge of the sex abuse his wrestlers endured during his tenure at Ohio State.”

“Jordan can once again choose loyalty to the truth or continue being a sycophant loyal to Donald Trump—but he can’t be both,” Ardo wrote in conclusion.

That’s pretty much Jim Jordan in a nutshell. He’s already indicated earlier this month that he doesn’t intend to cooperate with the committee after he was asked to provide information.

“I have no relevant information that would assist the select committee in advancing any legitimate legislative purpose,” he wrote in a letter to the committee.

And Jordan has been a Trump sycophant for ages, helping the former president to keep spreading false claims that the election was “rigged” or “stolen” from him. And of course, these allegations encouraged at least 2000 fanatical Trump supporters to converge on the Capitol in a failed effort to obstruct the certification of Joe Biden’s electoral college win.

But that’s not all. Just before January 6, Jordan forwarded a text message to then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows in an attempt to form a strategy to help Trump remain in power unconstitutionally. This has received heaps of criticism after being revealed in December.

“Look, Jim Jordan is a traitor,” Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) told MSNBC when the text was revealed. “He’s a traitor to the Constitution of the United States for quite a while, and now we actually have it in text.”

Jordan thought nothing about betraying all those student-athletes and this recent attempt at going against the Constitution is really just another betrayal — this time involving the American people as a whole. But this really isn’t news, now is it? It’s the way Jordan has quite obviously always been.

But the worst news about this is that Jordan, who has continually criticized the Biden administration, has big plans if Republicans regain the House during the midterms. He said as much in an interview on The Truth With Lisa Boothe podcast, describing the investigations he hopes to launch if this happens. He’s the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, so if the GOP gets the proverbial foot in the door again, this would position him as the frontrunner to take over as Chair of the committee.

Aren’t you thrilled? This gives the Republicans the chance to do what they do best: create more gridlock to prevent anything beneficial from being accomplished. Unless of course, it suits their wealthy benefactors.
