New In the Heights trailers tease the musical event of the summer

Warner Bros. Pictures has released two new In the Heights trailers for Jon M. Chu’s upcoming film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hit Broadway musical, featuring new footage of the film’s powerful musical numbers. Both new videos give highlight to Anthony Ramos’ character as he retells the story of Washington Heights which is a place where people stand up for their dreams. Also starring Miranda, Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace, and Melissa Barrera, you can check out the video in the player below along with the new posters!

Originally scheduled for a 2020 release, the film is now set to make its debut in theaters and on HBO Max on June 18, 2021. The current release date pits the film against Disney-Pixar’s newest animated film titled Luca.

Warner Bros.’ upcoming In the Heights film adaptation is based on Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s award-winning Broadway musical of the same name. Alongside Miranda, the film stars Anthony Ramos (HamiltonA Star is Born), Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton) and Golden Globe winner Jimmy Smits (NYPD Blue), who will be playing the roles of Usnavi de la Vega, Benny and Kevin, respectively. Broadway star Daphne Rubin-Vega, Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Stephanie Beatriz, and Orange Is the New Black‘s Dascha Polanco will also star.

In the Heights is set in Washington Heights in New York City and focuses on a bodega owner who is closing his store and retiring to the Dominican Republic after inheriting his grandmother’s fortune. The musical won the 2008 Tony Award for Best Musical.

Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) will direct from a script written by Quiara Alegría Hudes (Hamilton). Miranda, Anthony Bregman, Mara Jacobs, and Scott Sanders will serve as producers on the project. Miranda portrayed the lead role of Usnavi in the Broadway musical and also wrote the music and lyrics.
