As if Augusta wasn’t a hard enough test.
Abraham Ancer announced on his Twitter account that he found out after his opening Masters round that he was penalized two strokes for grazing the sand in a bunker on the 15th hole.
“I was just informed that I have been assessed a 2 stroke penalty for unintentionally grazing the sand in my backswing on hole 15. While I’m gutted, I can’t wait to get after it (Friday),” Ancer wrote.
Ancer was in the greenside bunker in two shots on the par 5. However, Ancer needed two shots to get out of the bunker before two-putting for what he thought was a bogey.
Instead, he got an eight on the hole and finished 3-over par, 10 shots behind leader Justin Rose.
