Outdoor space and extra rooms now top of house-hunters priority list

Over the past year or so our homes have had more demands placed on them than ever before.

On top of their normal functions, they’ve become offices, classrooms and gyms, and a legacy of the pandemic is that we’ve reassessed our priorities when planning to move.

In its latest Housing Futures report, estate agency Strutt & Parker reveals that private outside space and extra room now top house hunters’ wish lists.

They also look for excellent broadband and mobile connectivity, and although 45% of those surveyed would move closer to nature to benefit their mental health, more than three quarters cite access to shops and amenities as a motivation for moving.

We still want to live in locations that suit our lifestyles – for example close to good schools, and nearly two thirds say that convenience for public transport is important.

Demand for new-build homes has soared, with 69% of Londoners and 72% of 30 to 34-year-olds preferring them to older stock.

Charlotte Moxon, head of regional new homes at Strutt & Parker, puts this down to the confidence that comes from moving into a brand-new, clean, low-maintenance home.

Once you’ve seen these fab family houses you’ll likely agree.
