While her ex-husband Jeff Bezos proceeds to ignite barrels of cash so he can shoot himself into space and finally achieve his childhood dream of playing 7 Minutes in Heaven without the humiliation of waiting in a dark closet for an hour only to come out and find the party had moved to a cooler kid’s house, MacKenzie Scott continues to ensure an eternity in heaven by fulfilling her promise to give away her entire fortune. CNN Business reports that Mack and her new husband Dan Jewett just made a $2.74 billion donation “to organizations that focus on the arts and combating racial discrimination,” bringing Mack’s total giving up to $8.5 billion in under a year. While Jeff has his eye on the stars, Mack’s looking out for humanity right here on earth — and both of hers work!
I don’t think Mack’s giving is a pettily timed, passive-aggressive way to make Jeff look like a comic book super-villain trying to escape the planet he ruined in a rocket-fueled with the tears of the proletariat, but the result is undeniable. CNN reports:
MacKenzie Scott, one of the richest women in the world, and her husband Dan Jewett, donated $2.74 billion to organizations that focus on the arts and combating racial discrimination.
At $193.5 billion, Bezos is currently the world’s’ wealthiest person, and Scott’s fortune is valued at about $59 billion, according to Forbes. She married Jewett in March.
In a Medium post, MacKenzie detailed her continued efforts to fulfill The Giving Pledge she signed in May of 2019 (and was subsequently signed by Dan) with the help of a team of “researchers and administrators and advisors” to ensure their donations make the greatest impact possible. Their donations are going to “286 Teams Empowering Voices the World Needs to Hear,” to use as they see fit. She writes:
People struggling against inequities deserve center stage in stories about change they are creating. This is equally — perhaps especially — true when their work is funded by wealth. Any wealth is a product of a collective effort that included them. The social structures that inflate wealth present obstacles to them. And despite those obstacles, they are providing solutions that benefit us all.
Meanwhile, Jeff is probably giving himself a urine facial while practicing how to piss in zero gravity.
