When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed Lilibet Diana, many of us were surprised by how soon she came. When Meghan said she was due “in the summer,” I guess we all just agreed that it would be more like mid-June or late June? But no, Lili was born on June 4th. Since Lili Montecito came nearly a full month before Prince Harry is due back in the UK for the fakakta statue-unveiling on July 1st, there were rumors that Meghan would make the journey with Harry? It sounds like a royal-commentator’s fever dream, the idea of a weeks-postpartum Meghan bringing Archie and Lili to Kensington Palace to watch Harry and William unveil a statue of Diana. It’s also very stupid and it’s not going to happen.
A source close to the Sussexes has dismissed reports Meghan Markle was planning to travel to London for the unveiling of the new Princess Diana statue. Radar Online published a report claiming the Duchess of Sussex, 39, wanted to fly to the UK to support her husband at the family event on July 1. It quoted a source who said Meghan wanted to be by Harry’s side as he faced his family for the first time since the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral and subsequent interviews in which he accused the Queen of passing on ‘genetic pain’.
The claim has since been dismissed, with a source close to Harry and Meghan telling the Daily Mirror: ‘Meghan is not going to travel. She has just had a baby and Harry will travel alone.’
ITV Royal Producer Lizzie Robinson also tweeted: ‘Meghan will not fly to the UK to join Harry for the unveiling of a statue of his late mother Princess Diana on July 1st, a source confirmed after a US website claimed she would be attending.’
Prince Harry and Prince William will reunite to unveil the statue in their mother’s honour on July 1, what would have been her 60th birthday. The statue is set to be placed and unveiled in the princess’ favourite spot on Kensington Palace’s grounds, in the Sunken Gardens.
This is what it’s come to, British outlets looking to Radar Online (a site people haven’t used as a source of legitimate gossip in a decade) to start sh-t, just so they can get Harry & Meghan’s people to officially deny it. Of course Meghan isn’t coming. She was never coming to the unveiling. But don’t worry, in Meghan’s absence, the Cambridges are going to be so over-the-top, it will make your head spin. We will be getting WEEKS of stories about how Kate is the linchpin of the monarchy because she stared longingly at Harry and tried to flirt with him.
