House votes in favor of reversing Iraq war authorization

The House voted Thursday to repeal the 2002 authorization for the Iraq War, in Congress‘ effort to scale back presidential war powers.

The 268-161 vote in the Democrat-controlled chamber was largely along party lines, according to The Hill newspaper.

Lawmakers who voted in favor of the repeal argue the nearly 20-year-old authorization for the use of military force (AUMF) is outdated and no longer necessary, the newspaper also reports.
