Shortly after Yermin Mercedes’ abrupt announcement, the White Sox said they were aware of his post, but had not received word from Mercedes.

Mercedes, a 28-year-old rookie, was carrying the White Sox in April, and appeared to be one of the true feel-good stories in the sport.

But after a prolonged slump, Mercedes was sent down to the team’s Triple-A site in Charlotte.

According to reports, Yermin Mercedes is in uniform, and expected to play for Charlotte on Thursday night despite the social media post.

Yermin Mercedes had a disagreement with manager Tony La Russa earlier in the season when he hit a 3-0 pitch for a home run against a Twins position player during a blowout win.

La Russa felt the move was disrespectful, while Mercedes held firm that he was just having fun playing the game he loves.

Perhaps Tony La Russa and Yermin Mercedes’ disagreement has something to do with the DH contemplating his future. But whatever the case may be, it’s good to see that Mercedes has not actually decided to hang up the cleats just yet.
